Actor Tyrese Gibson was held in contempt of court on Tuesday for failing to pay the full amount of child support to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson. The judge ordered him to pay $237,944 in back child support for their daughter, Soraya, and $399,000 for Samantha’s attorney fees.
Gibson had been paying only $2,236 a month instead of the $10,000 a month that the court had ordered in August. He also accused the judge of being a racist and asked for the support of civil rights activists.
Gibson, who is known for his roles in the “Fast and Furious” and “Transformers” franchises, claimed that he was not able to pay the full amount because he was out of work due to the pandemic and had no active film projects. He also argued that Samantha was making more than $100,000 a year and that their daughter’s needs were met.
The judge rejected his arguments and warned him that he could be arrested if he did not comply with the order. Gibson’s attorney said that they would appeal the ruling and seek a new trial. The judge also ordered Gibson to pay $258,000 of the money he owes by May 15.
This is not the first time that Gibson has been involved in a child support dispute. He was previously married to Norma Mitchell, with whom he has a daughter named Shayla. In 2017, he accused Mitchell of preventing him from seeing Shayla and posted an emotional video on social media begging her to drop a restraining order against him.
He also claimed that he was broke and could not afford to pay $13,000 a month in child support. He later settled the case with Mitchell and agreed to pay $10,500 a month and share joint custody of Shayla.
Celebrity or not, some people are just not good supportive parents no matter what.
