Last week, we told you about Julia Faustyna, a woman from Poland who has recently made the news due to her claims that she may be Madeleine McCann, the girl who went missing in Portugal in 2007 when she was just three years old.
Her family has disputed these claims and are expressing concern over the intense media coverage they have received as a result. According to her family, Julia is mentally unstable and is making this whole thing up. They state that Julia has been of legal age for several years and moved out of the family home, refusing treatment and not taking advantage of opportunities for psychological help. It’s also alleged that Julia’s desire for online attention and fame is a motivating factor behind her claims.
“For us as a family it is obvious that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and step niece. We have memories, we have pictures,” the family said in a statement through the missing persons’ organization Missing Years Ago.
“Julia also has these photos, because she took them from the family home with the birth certificate, as well as numerous hospital discharges.”
“We always tried to help her get back on her feet. Julia has been of age for several years. She has moved out of the house, (she) refuses treatment, doesn’t take medicines regularly,” they said.
Julia has documented physical similarities between herself and Madeleine, including facial moles and a brown mark on each girl’s right iris, as well as claiming post-traumatic amnesia after being sexually abused by a German pedophile whose identity remains unknown. However, private investigators have cast doubts on this story due to the lack of evidence presented to support it.
The family has requested privacy while they go through this ordeal and has stated they will take legal action against any threats or lies directed towards them by Julia. Furthermore, they are concerned with how this case will affect their daughter’s reputation long-term due to its presence on the internet.
Nevertheless, McCann’s parents are willing to try anything and are willing to pay for a DNA test just in case it is true.
