Breaking: Tulsi Gabbard Demands Criminal Charges for Obama-Era “Treasonous Conspiracy”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sent shockwaves through Washington on Friday, calling for criminal prosecution of several Obama administration officials. The accusation: participating in a “treasonous conspiracy” to manipulate U.S. intelligence and create the narrative that Russia meddled in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump.

In a newly declassified report, Gabbard alleges these officials “manipulated and withheld” critical intelligence from both the public and the incoming Trump administration. She named former DNI James Clapper, ex-CIA Director John Brennan, and former FBI Director James Comey among those potentially involved.

The Timeline of a Narrative Shift

According to the declassified documents, prior to the 2016 election, U.S. intelligence agencies largely agreed that Russia lacked the intent and capability to disrupt the electoral process. Early assessments after Trump’s victory confirmed no evidence of foreign interference altering the vote.

But hours before a December 8, 2016 Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) was set to be published, a senior intelligence official abruptly removed it from President Obama’s briefing materials. The next day, the Obama White House convened a classified National Security Council meeting, after which top officials allegedly reversed course.

Within hours, the intelligence community reportedly began drafting an assessment that directly contradicted six months of prior evaluations—laying the foundation for the Mueller investigation and years of political turmoil.

Gabbard Calls for Accountability

“No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Gabbard said in her statement. She also pledged to provide the Justice Department with all related documents, adding: “The American people deserve the truth, and President Trump deserves justice.”

The Justice Department declined to comment on Gabbard’s allegations. Clapper and Brennan have not responded publicly. Comey declined to comment when approached by reporters.

Critics Push Back

Democratic Congressman Jim Himes dismissed Gabbard’s claims as “baseless accusations of treason.” He accused the DNI of “rehashing decade-old false claims about the Obama administration” to distract from current controversies.

Himes pointed to the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee’s three-year investigation during Trump’s first term, which concluded that Russia engaged in an “aggressive effort” to influence the election. While the report noted troubling contacts between Trump campaign associates and Russian officials, it stopped short of declaring collusion.

A Growing Divide Over 2016

Gabbard’s report has reignited debate over whether Obama-era officials overstepped their bounds in their handling of Russian interference claims. Supporters see her revelations as proof of political weaponization at the highest levels of intelligence. Critics view it as an attempt to rewrite history and undermine faith in the intelligence community.

A separate review commissioned by former CIA Director John Ratcliffe raised concerns about how the agency arrived at its 2017 conclusions but ultimately did not dispute the assessment that Moscow sought to interfere in Trump’s favor.

What Happens Next?

Gabbard has not specified whether she expects immediate indictments but insists the DOJ must act swiftly. “This was not just about politics,” she said. “This was about subverting democracy itself.”

The political stakes are high. For Trump supporters, Gabbard’s findings may serve as the ultimate vindication of their long-standing claims about a “Deep State” effort to derail his presidency. For Democrats, it’s a reminder of how deeply polarized the debate over 2016 remains nearly a decade later.
