A former Atlanta Falcons safety, William Moore, was arrested on April 23, 2023, after he allegedly shot at a woman’s car that had her nine-year-old niece and another child inside. The incident happened at a park in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where Moore’s daughter and the woman’s niece were playing together.
According to Moore’s lawyer, Matthew D. Crosby, Moore confronted the woman after his daughter was assaulted by the older girl. The woman told WSB-TV that Moore used profane language and was livid over nothing. She said she did not see her niece slap Moore’s daughter, but they were playing a game like tag.
“He proceeds to say, your f’n niece slapped my daughter. And I’m like, well, sir, I apologize. I didn’t see that. I know that they were playing together,” the woman said, choosing to remain anonymous.
“He was livid over absolutely nothing,” the woman also said.
Moore then allegedly tried to puncture the woman’s tires with a knife. A video from a witness showed Moore and another woman poking the tires while the woman was talking to Moore. The woman said she tried to drive away and accidentally hit Moore’s car. That’s when Moore fired his gun at her car’s tire, according to his lawyer.
Crosby said Moore acted in self-defense and was terrified that his children would be seriously hurt or killed by the woman’s car. He said Moore shot away from the occupants and tried to disable her vehicle.
The police arrested Moore and charged him with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm during a crime, and cruelty to children. His bond was set at $21,700.
Moore played for the Falcons from 2009 to 2015 and was a Pro Bowler in 2012 and is 37 years old. This seems to be something we see a lot more out of professional athletes today. They seem to be much more violent in life on the field.
