Mace Announces Plans to Investigate
Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said she plans to open an investigation into outgoing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Mace told Newsmax she trusts President Donald Trump and his judgment in the decision to remove Noem from the post. But trusting the president does not mean letting possible waste of taxpayer money go unexamined. Mace made clear she will press for answers about how public funds were spent while Noem led DHS.
Questions About Advisers and Staff Moves
Mace also raised questions about who will follow Noem out the door. She asked specifically about Corey Lewandowski and whether he will move with Noem. Lewandowski had been linked to Noem as an adviser and had been discussed for a senior staff role. Mace and others want clarity on the connections between former campaign figures, advisory roles, and any official appointments that might have violated rules for government hiring.
Hundreds of Millions in PR Spending
One of the biggest claims Mace highlighted was the reported spending on public relations and TV ads. She said she was surprised to learn about what she called hundreds of millions of dollars used on PR that did not appear to focus on core DHS missions like deportations and border security. That is exactly the kind of spending Republicans should scrutinize. Taxpayers deserve to know if money meant for border security was diverted into partisan or self-promotional campaigns.
Accountability Within the Party
Mace emphasized that Republicans must hold their own accountable. She praised Senator John Kennedy for tough questioning that helped expose these issues. Mace said she will seek subpoenas through the Oversight Committee if necessary. The message was clear. President Donald Trump is trying to restore trust in government and Republican officials must show they can police their ranks too.
