Kamala Harris, then-San Francisco District Attorney, released an illegal immigrant who was charged with unlicensed driving, and he went on to kill a young law student shortly after. According to the Washington Free Beacon, Harris’ office dropped the charges against Roberto Galo in June 2010 after he was caught driving without a license. Just four months later, Galo fatally hit 25-year-old law student Drew Rosenberg with his car, running over his body multiple times in an attempt to escape.
Drew’s father, Don Rosenberg, shared his frustration with the Free Beacon, stating, “What I’ve now learned is what happened to me is the rule, not the exception to the rule.” He believes that his son’s death could have been prevented if Harris had taken driving without a license seriously. Don also revealed that it took five men to lift Galo’s vehicle off his son’s body, showing the severity of the impact.
The reluctance of San Francisco law enforcement to prosecute unlicensed drivers was due to pressure from activists who claimed that such laws unfairly targeted illegal immigrants. This leniency was evident in their lack of cases against unlicensed drivers, as shared by a prosecutor in Harris’ office during the year prior to Drew’s death.
Galo was initially charged with vehicular homicide, but Harris’ office later reduced the charge to misdemeanor homicide. Don Rosenberg was not informed of the court hearing where the charges were reduced and was initially denied the opportunity to appeal. It wasn’t until after George Gascón took over as District Attorney that an appeal was filed, but it was rejected due to a technicality.
After his 43-day sentence, Galo was released from prison, much to the shock of Drew’s family. They were not informed of his early release, and Harris’ office showed no concern for their well-being. Don even reached out to Harris after she became California Attorney General, sharing that his son had voted for her, but she refused to meet with him.

The Harris campaign has relied on her record as a prosecutor, touting her as a tough on crime candidate in contrast to former President Trump. However, many of her donors have supported efforts to weaken law enforcement, and some have even worked with billionaire George Soros in electing left-wing prosecutors.
Don Rosenberg’s heartbreaking story serves as a reminder that Harris has failed to protect innocent citizens and their families. Despite being a former supporter, he has been left feeling betrayed and ignored by Harris. This case highlights the consequences of not taking driving without a license seriously and the need for stricter enforcement of the law. Galo’s release and Harris’ lack of action have further perpetuated the pain and suffering of Drew’s family, leaving them without justice for their son’s death.
