‘Marjorie Traitor Brown’: Trump Reacts to MTG Resignation

President Donald Trump had harsh words for U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after she announced Friday night that she would be resigning from congress on January 5, bringing an abrupt end to a whirlwind career that began in 2021. Greene’s resignation follows a dramatic split with President Trump that culminated in the president rescinding his endorsement.

“Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it ‘quits.,’” Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday morning. The president has been referring to Greene as “Marjorie Traitor Brown” in recent days, stating that “grass turns brown when it begins to rot.”

“Her relationship with the WORST Republican Congressman in decades, Tom Massie of Kentucky, also known as Rand Paul Jr. because he votes against the Republican Party (and really good legislation!), did not help her,” Trump added.

The president went on to insinuate that Greene “went bad” when he refused to answer her phone calls and unsolicited advice. He did, however, end the post on a positive note in which he thanked Greene for being a loyal ally throughout the majority of her congressional career.

“Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!”

The unexpected end to Greene’s time in Washington comes after weeks of mounting tensions between the congresswoman, President Trump, and congressional Republican leaders.

Greene joined a number of left-leaning media outlets and shows, including “The View” and multiple appearances on CNN, in order to attack a number of the president’s policy positions and side with Democrats on key issues. She was a vocal opponent of her own party during the record-setting government shutdown, oftentimes endorsing Democratic Party talking points on blaming Republicans for the healthcare crisis fueled by expiring Obamacare subsidies agreed to in the Democrats’ own reconciliation bill in 2021.

She also suggested that President Trump was prioritizing “foreign countries” over American citizens, said the administration’s mass deportation agenda was too far-reaching, and insinuated that Trump was in the “Epstein files” after stating that he wasn’t just days before. She also joined Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a fierce Trump opponent, at an “Epstein files” press conference attended by prominent left-wing strategists and signs slandering the president as a pedophile.

In a 10-minute video statement announcing her decision to resign, Greene stated that she felt as though she never “fit in” with Washington D.C., adding that she sought to prioritize everyday Americans during her tenure in Congress.

Americans are used by the political -industrial complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more. And the results are always the same. No matter which way the political pendulum swings, Republican or Democrat, nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman,” the congresswoman said.

She went on to criticize the Republican House majority for lack of legislative action, noting that she has brought several bills to the floor in line with the Trump agenda that never advance.

Greene’s resignation, effective January 5, will thin the Republican Party’s slim house majority by another member. A closely-watched special election in Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District will take place in the interim, where Republicans are hoping to hold on to a generally reliably red district after Rep. Mark Green retired this past summer.

A special election will be called in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, which Greene currently represents, at some point after she officially resigns. The district currently has an R+19 rating on the Cook Partisan Voting Index and is expected to remain in Republican hands.
