Two supporters of former President Trump, who were severely injured in a shooting incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, have had their medical status upgraded to “stable” from “critical”, as reported on Saturday night. The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire on the crowd during the event.
The victims, David Dutch, 57, from New Kensington, PA and James Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township, Pennsylvania were initially listed in “critical” condition by the Pennsylvania State Police. Both men are now receiving care at hospitals in the Pittsburgh area and their conditions have improved to “stable”.
According to CNN, Mr. Dutch underwent two surgeries for gunshot wounds in his liver and chest.
Tragically, one attendee at the rally was killed when Thomas Matthew Crooks began shooting from a rooftop located approximately 130 yards from the former president’s podium. The deceased has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter and father of two who died while shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Comperatore’s daughter, Allyson, paid tribute to her father. She praised him as the best dad and a real-life superhero who protected her and her mother during the incident.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro honored Corey Comperatore’s heroic actions by ordering all commonwealth and American flags in Pennsylvania to be flown at half-staff. He emphasized that political disagreements should never result in violence and advocated for peaceful resolution of differences.
The total number of victims injured in this incident remains uncertain. It’s reported that Crooks managed to fire no more than 10 shots before he was neutralized by Secret Service snipers. A local police officer reportedly tried to approach the gunman, forcing him to rush his shot.
U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) disclosed to Fox News that his nephew was grazed by a bullet in his neck and is currently recuperating.
