WATCH: Joy Reid Claims “Jingle Bells” Is Racist

If you ever needed proof that the modern Left has no off switch, Joy Reid has once again delivered. This time, her target isn’t capitalism, law enforcement, or Trump voters — it’s “Jingle Bells.” Yes, the Christmas song sung by preschoolers, mall Santas, and drunk uncles alike is now allegedly racist. According to Reid and the online activists she amplifies, Americans have been unknowingly jingling their way through a white supremacist holiday tradition, and it’s time to feel shame about it. Because of course it is.

How the Left Weaponizes History to Suck the Joy Out of Everything

The claim making the rounds — enthusiastically promoted by Joy Reid to her massive social media audience — argues that Jingle Bells was written by James Lord Pierpont, who later sympathized with the Confederacy, and that early performances occurred in 19th-century minstrel shows. From there, the logic leaps straight off a cliff: Confederate association plus minstrelsy equals “racist song,” therefore modern Americans should stop singing it. No nuance. No context. No allowance for the passage of time, cultural evolution, or the fact that literally no one has ever interpreted “laughing all the way” as a coded hate crime against anyone. History, in this telling, isn’t something to learn from — it’s a weapon to bludgeon the present.

Even the Historian Says Joy Reid Got It Wrong

Here’s the part Reid and her allies always gloss over: the very historian whose research is being cited has explicitly stated she never claimed Jingle Bells itself was racist, nor did she argue that people should stop singing it. The research traced historical performances, not moral intent, and certainly not modern meaning. That inconvenient clarification doesn’t survive long in the progressive outrage machine, because the goal isn’t accuracy — it’s narrative. If you can vaguely associate something popular with a disfavored period of history, you can brand it as tainted and demand moral obedience from everyone else.

Projection Is the Left’s Favorite Holiday Tradition

While lecturing America about racism, Joy Reid and her progressive peers have somehow managed to make openly racialized attacks against people they don’t like politically. In related commentary, Reid and others mocked JD Vance’s wife as a “brown Hindu,” speculated crudely about interracial marriage, and suggested MAGA voters would prefer him with a “white queen.” Apparently, racial identity is sacred — unless you’re a minority who doesn’t vote correctly. Then it’s open season. This is the same crowd that insists conservatives are obsessed with race, while obsessively reducing everyone to skin color and ideological purity tests.

When “Illegal” Becomes the New N-Word — Somehow

Reid didn’t stop at Christmas music. She’s also argued that the legal term “illegal immigrant” is equivalent to the n-word — a claim so unserious it would be laughable if it weren’t being broadcast to millions. By this logic, enforcing borders, using statutory language, or acknowledging immigration law is an act of racial hatred. The Left’s playbook is simple: redefine words, inflate offense, and then accuse anyone who disagrees of moral failure. It’s not persuasion — it’s coercion.

Why This Isn’t About Jingle Bells at All

This entire episode isn’t really about a song. It’s about control. If the Left can convince Americans that even their most innocent traditions are suspect, then nothing is off limits. Christmas becomes a problem. Language becomes a problem. History becomes a problem. Joy itself becomes a problem. The goal is perpetual guilt — if you’re deemed an “oppressor,” you must spend your life apologizing, and if you’re labeled a “victim,” you’re told you can never overcome it. Everyone loses, except the activists who get to position themselves as the moral referees of society.

The Normal People Are Still Singing

Here’s the reality Joy Reid doesn’t seem to grasp: Americans aren’t buying it. Families are still singing Jingle Bells. Kids are still laughing. Churches are still celebrating. And no amount of Instagram slideshows or revisionist scolding is going to convince normal people that a sleigh ride song is a secret hate manifesto. The Left tried this with the national anthem. They tried it with statues. They tried it with Thanksgiving. Now it’s Christmas music’s turn — and it’s just as ridiculous as the rest.

This Is Why They Keep Losing the Culture

Every time Joy Reid pulls a stunt like this, she reminds Americans why trust in legacy media has collapsed. People are exhausted by the constant outrage, the selective morality, and the endless effort to turn shared culture into a battlefield. Christmas doesn’t need to be “reimagined.” It doesn’t need a disclaimer. And it certainly doesn’t need Joy Reid’s permission. At some point, Americans have to say enough — and keep singing anyway.
