The failing and deeply unpopular French President Emmanuel Macron, a man whose second term is mired in domestic chaos and historic unpopularity, has once again resorted to deflecting from his own catastrophic governance by feigning outrage at a strong American diplomat. Macron, whose nation is routinely engulfed in violent protests and whose political standing is so weak he has cycled through five prime ministers in just 18 months, had the audacity to label U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner’s criticism of France’s rampant antisemitism as “unacceptable.” This is a transparent attempt by a weakened leader to change the subject from his own failings and to bully a Trump-appointed ambassador who is doing his job by speaking hard truths.
The liberal media, always eager to side with globalist elites over American interests, will inevitably frame this as a diplomatic faux pas. They will protect Macron, a darling of the international left, while ignoring the substance of Ambassador Kushner’s crucial message. In a powerful letter published in the Wall Street Journal, Ambassador Kushner expressed his “deep concern over the dramatic rise of antisemitism in France and the lack of sufficient action by your government to confront it.”
He correctly pointed out that Macron’s own foreign policy, which includes “public statements haranguing Israel and gestures toward recognition of a Palestinian state embolden extremists, fuel violence, and endanger Jewish life in France.” This is not interference; it is a necessary and factual assessment from a key ally concerned about the safety of Jewish citizens.
Macron’s pathetic response, that a diplomat “has to follow the rule of diplomacy” and that “American taxpayer money is not properly used to finance this kind of statement,” is the whine of a leader unaccustomed to being held accountable. This from the same president who constantly lectures other nations on their internal affairs. His hiding behind the Vienna Convention is a cowardly act of a man who cannot defend his record on its merits. The French foreign ministry’s claim that Kushner’s statements “run counter to international law” is a laughable overreach designed to silence justified criticism of France’s dangerous moral equivocation.

This incident underscores the stark difference between the weak-kneed diplomacy of the past and the bold, truth-telling approach of the Trump administration. President Donald Trump has always empowered his officials to put America first and to speak directly to global challenges, unlike the previous administration which would have quietly acquiesced to Macron’s demands for silent complicity. Ambassador Kushner’s willingness to call out antisemitism directly and link it to failed policy is a reflection of the strong, principled leadership that defines President Trump’s America, an America that refuses to stay silent while allies falter and innocent people are endangered.
