The Biden administration has managed to oversee yet another cyber debacle, this time involving Chinese state-sponsored hackers who infiltrated the U.S. Treasury Department. On December 8, the attackers exploited outdated security measures to access unclassified documents and employee workstations. While officials downplay the breach as a “major incident,” it’s clear that this administration’s glaring incompetence has left America’s critical institutions exposed—again.
But here’s the real kicker: with Biden’s history of questionable ties to China, this breach raises serious concerns about whether his administration’s lax approach to cybersecurity is sheer negligence or something more sinister.
Outdated Security Measures—Or Deliberate Inaction?
The breach, enabled by antiquated security protocols, allowed hackers to remotely override protections and access Treasury systems. Treasury officials, scrambling to contain the fallout, insist the compromised devices have been taken offline and there’s no evidence of ongoing access. That’s little comfort, given that the department oversees global financial systems, sanctions enforcement, and sensitive economic data.
This isn’t just a cybersecurity issue—it’s a national security crisis. Former British intelligence officer Philip Ingram speculated the breach could have targeted information about Donald Trump, underscoring the CCP’s obsession with undermining U.S. leadership. Meanwhile, Biden and his team seem more focused on optics than action, leaving the door open for further attacks.
Biden’s History with China: A Cause for Concern
Biden’s ties to China are well-documented, from his family’s controversial business dealings to his administration’s reluctance to confront Beijing’s aggression. Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop revealed troubling connections to Chinese business ventures, raising questions about whether the president is compromised. Now, under Biden’s watch, Chinese hackers are brazenly targeting U.S. institutions. Coincidence? Or is Beijing emboldened by a White House they believe is in their pocket?
China expert Gordon Chang even suggested that the CCP may have wanted to be caught in this breach, using it as a power move to show the world that American networks aren’t safe. Why wouldn’t they? With Biden in charge, they’re practically getting a free pass.
China Denies, Biden Excuses
As usual, China’s Foreign Ministry denied involvement, claiming they “oppose all forms of hacking.” Sure, just like they oppose military aggression in the South China Sea. Despite the CCP’s predictable denials, there’s no mistaking their fingerprints on this breach. Experts agree there’s no separation between Chinese state operations and criminal hacking groups.
But Biden’s response has been, at best, muted. Instead of decisive action, his administration offers the same tired promises of “investigating” and “improving cybersecurity.” This isn’t leadership—it’s damage control. And while Biden dithers, China strengthens its foothold in American systems.
Republicans Demand Accountability
Thankfully, Republicans like Rep. John Moolenaar aren’t letting this slide. “For too long, the CCP has paid no real price for its increasingly aggressive intrusions,” he said, calling for escalating consequences. Incoming national security adviser Rep. Mike Waltz echoed the sentiment, urging the U.S. to go on offense instead of merely playing defense.
Their frustration is understandable. China’s hacking spree has targeted everything from telecommunications networks to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo’s communications. Yet, Biden’s administration seems more interested in maintaining “diplomatic dialogue” than imposing real costs on Beijing.
A Pattern of Failures
Let’s not forget, this isn’t an isolated incident. Earlier this year, Chinese hackers breached nine U.S. telecom companies, accessing private communications of senior officials. They’ve also infiltrated systems to monitor who the U.S. is wiretapping, giving them insight into counter-espionage efforts. Each attack emboldens the CCP further, yet Biden continues to tiptoe around the issue.
Why? Perhaps it’s because taking a hard line on China would risk exposing inconvenient truths about his family’s dealings. Or maybe this administration is simply in over its head. Either way, America is paying the price.
Final Thoughts
Under Biden’s leadership—or lack thereof—China has found an ally in America’s incompetence. Whether through negligence or deliberate inaction, this administration has allowed adversaries to exploit our vulnerabilities, putting national security and global stability at risk. It’s time for real accountability, starting with serious consequences for Beijing and a hard look at the man in the Oval Office.
