Florida Puts the Message Right in Manhattan
The Florida Chamber of Commerce has taken out a Times Square billboard aimed at New York City Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani, calling him its “Economic Developer of the Year” and adding a blunt little thank-you note: “Thanks for the jobs!” That is not exactly the kind of award a socialist mayor puts on the mantle, but Florida is making the point loud and clear. According to Florida Chamber of Commerce CEO Mark Wilson, the campaign is meant to thank Mamdani for the jobs, companies, and people being pushed out of New York, with many of them heading straight to Florida. When your economic plan becomes a relocation ad for another state, the marketing department may want to circle back.
Florida is taking its rivalry with New York straight to Times Square.

Wilson Says Free Enterprise Is on the Line
Wilson told Fox Business on Aug. 10 that the issue is bigger than a Florida versus New York rivalry. He said America is at a crossroads, built on freedom, free enterprise, and the liberty for people to pursue their dreams. He warned that there is a growing push in the country to take those liberties away and attack free enterprise, adding that such policies have never worked anywhere and will not work in America. Wilson called Mamdani’s agenda dangerous for New Yorkers, harmful for New York, and bad for the country. His message was simple: America can choose free enterprise, or it can choose to tear down the very system that built it.
The Numbers Tell Their Own Story
The Florida Chamber pointed to official government data showing that residents are voting with their feet. Florida is gaining $2.4 million in net taxable income each hour, while New York is losing $1.1 million per hour. Florida is also gaining a net 551 residents every day, while New York is losing 115. Wilson said tax policy is a major reason families and businesses are moving to Florida, noting that the state has lowered taxes more than 50 times in the last 15 years. He also said Florida has record revenues coming in because people want to be there, and when the economy grows, tax revenues grow. Imagine that, letting people keep more of their money can actually attract more people and more money.
Florida Says This Is Not Just Scoreboard Watching
Wilson said Florida is winning right now, but he insisted the goal is not to see New York lose. He said the hope is that other states reject the move toward socialism and say yes to the policies America was founded on. He also said this is not about spiking a football or staring at a Florida versus New York scoreboard, but about trying to save the country from “crazy.” That may be the sharpest line of the whole campaign, because people do not pack up families, jobs, and businesses for no reason. They move when taxes, policies, and political leadership make staying harder than leaving.
