NFL sensation Damar Hamlin has been released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after a week-long stay following a cardiac arrest he suffered on the field. After being discharged from the hospital, Hamlin was flown back to Buffalo, New York where he is currently undergoing continued recovery at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute in stable condition.
Doctors have reported Hamlin’s remarkable progress in his recovery which includes walking and beginning to eat regular food since having a breathing tube removed on Friday.
Despite his ordeal, he is committed to returning to the field this upcoming season and continuing his incredible NFL career. His teammates have expressed their support for him throughout his recovery process with many of them sending well wishes via social media.
The event has also brought awareness to the importance of cardiac health in athletes and has sparked discussion about preventive measures that could be taken in order to reduce risks associated with sudden cardiac arrest.
After landing in Buffalo, Hamlin took to social media to express his gratitude for the love and support he received from the football community.
According to Dr. William Knight, Hamlin had met a number of key milestones on his journey to recovery, and had no cervical spine injury. He is neurologically intact and is walking with a normal gait, though he is still a bit weak. Hamlin was able to watch the game and FaceTimed with the team afterwards, prompting Josh Allen to call it a “spiritual” moment. The team also presented Hamlin with the game ball following the 35-23 victory.
