Trump turns the spotlight on his loudest critics
President Trump used Truth Social late Wednesday night to share an AI-generated meme that poked fun at some of his most persistent critics in Hollywood and on TV. The clip portrayed Trump as “Dr. Trump,” a doctor offering treatment for what it called Trump Derangement Syndrome, or TDS. In the video, the AI version of Trump tells viewers, “Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with TDS? The symptoms can be relentless. Fortunately, I’m Dr. Trump, and I have a treatment plan.” That kind of message is vintage Trump: part jab, part theater, and just enough swagger to make his enemies grind their teeth. The video then rolls into fake testimonials from several familiar left-wing faces, including Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, John Leguizamo, Edward Norton, Robert De Niro, and Julia Roberts. If Hollywood was hoping for a quiet night, this was not it.
The fake testimonials were the real punchline
In the meme, each celebrity is shown as if they are describing the misery of suffering from TDS and finding relief through Trump’s imagined treatment plan. Rosie O’Donnell says she has been suffering for over a decade and can see results, while Whoopi Goldberg claims she thought she was a lost cause until the treatment started working. John Leguizamo, Robert De Niro, and Julia Roberts are also given scripted lines about anger, sleeplessness, and aging, all designed to make Trump’s critics look dramatic and unhinged. The whole thing is obviously satire, but it also sends a very clear message: Trump knows exactly who his critics are, and he is happy to troll them in public with a grin on his face. Love him or hate him, the man understands the art of political sarcasm better than most of Washington understands basic math.
Trump’s cure was simple, blunt, and very on brand
The AI version of Trump ends with his recommended “treatment,” and it is as straightforward as a campaign rally crowd after a long line at the concession stand: “Turn off fake news, say your prayers, and if you ever feel anxious, just have a Diet Coke like me.” That line will likely amuse his supporters and set off his critics all over again, which seems to be the entire point. Trump has always treated media combat as a contact sport, and this meme fits that style perfectly. Instead of giving his opponents a long serious rebuttal, he mocked them with a fake medical skit and let the joke do the talking. In an era when so much public debate is stiff, sterile, and full of lectures, Trump chose the ancient American tradition of telling your enemies to relax and maybe turn off MSNBC for a while.
