Aimen Halim, a Chicago man, is suing Buffalo Wild Wings for deceptive marketing and advertising of their “boneless wings.” The lawsuit claims that the product is not actually made from chicken wings, but rather chicken nuggets. According to Halim, the label “boneless wings” implies that the product is a chicken wing that has simply been deboned.
Halim claims that he purchased the boneless wings from Buffalo Wild Wings multiple times in 2020 and 2021. He alleges that he was misled into believing he was buying actual chicken wings when in fact they were nothing more than chicken nuggets.
“This clear-cut case of false advertising should not be permitted, as consumers should be able to rely on the plain meaning of a product’s name and receive what they are promised,” the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit states that Buffalo Wild Wings began selling boneless wings around 2003 and they have become one of the most popular menu items. Despite this popularity, Halim argues that customers are being deceived by the misleading labeling of these products as “boneless wings” when in fact they are nothing more than glorified chicken nuggets.
In response to the lawsuit, Buffalo Wild Wings released a statement sarcastically agreeing with Halim’s allegations: “It’s true…our Boneless Wings are actually crispy-fried pieces of all-white meat chicken tenders coated in our signature sauces.” They went on to say that they stand behind their products and will continue to offer them as part of their menu.
The case is still ongoing and it remains to be seen what will happen next. It could set an important precedent for other restaurants who may be engaging in similar deceptive practices with their labeling or advertising campaigns. In any case, it serves as an important reminder for consumers to always read labels carefully before making purchases so they know exactly what they are getting for their money.
Personally, I don’t waste my money on boneless wings. When I want some wings…I get some wings!
