Power Issues Close Two Vote Centers
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Maricopa County Elections Department announced that vote centers at Paradise Community College and Sunset Canyon School were temporarily closed because of “power related issues.” The department directed voters to find another nearby location. Power problems can happen, but election officials still need to provide clear information and functioning sites so citizens have a fair opportunity to cast ballots. When two locations close at once, voters are left wondering whether another site will be open when they arrive—an especially serious concern in a county already under intense election scrutiny.
Resident Reports Three Closed Locations
The Gateway Pundit reported that a Maricopa County resident visited Paradise Community College, Sunset Canyon School, and a third location near Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard in North Phoenix. He said all three locations were closed and described the experience in blunt terms: “We’re getting f*cked with again.” The source article did not independently confirm the account, but it illustrates why voters may be frustrated when a backup plan also appears unavailable. Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet urged voters not to be “deterred” and shared a link to additional voting locations.
Past Problems Add to Public Distrust
The closures revived memories of the 2022 election. The Gateway Pundit reported that, on Election Day that year, vote-tabulator failures affected roughly 60% of voting locations across Maricopa County, leaving many majority-Republican in-person voters facing hours-long lines or unable to vote. Republican Kari Lake was running against Democrat Katie Hobbs for governor and lost by less than 1%. Critics argued that the failures disenfranchised tens of thousands of voters. New disruptions involving equipment, power, or ballot processing now land in a county where many voters already believe officials have failed to provide clear answers.
Lake Demands Federal Investigation
Lake told The Gateway Pundit that Maricopa County was “up to its old tricks again.” She pointed to the vote center closures, a fire alarm pulled at a site in heavily Republican Mesa, reports from ballot curing in which voters were told ballots had been cast without their knowledge, and late-night activity at the tabulation center. Lake said Arizonans were tired of the Board of Supervisors’ “nothing to see here” routine and called for the Department of Justice and FBI to investigate.
Hobbs is seeking reelection against Trump-endorsed Republican Andy Biggs. The county also faced scrutiny last month over a reported error involving thousands of mail-in ballots and allegations that employees may have tampered with election equipment overnight. President Trump responded to the ballot issue by telling The Gateway Pundit, “They got caught! And now they’re saying it was an error. Maricopa is a very, very dishonest county.”
