Newt Gingrich Sees a Major Republican Upset Coming in November

Gingrich Makes a Bold November Prediction

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich is making a confident forecast for November: he says Republicans have odds “much better than even” of winning what he calls “one of the most shocking off-year elections in American history.” Gingrich made the prediction during a recent appearance on the Sean Hannity podcast. He said the political environment is being shaped by a simple concern: “Democrat-socialists are just too damn scary.” That is a blunt line, but it captures the case he is making. Gingrich believes the Republican side could deliver a result that defies the expectations many people bring to an off-year contest. This remains a prediction, not a reported election result, but Gingrich is putting his reputation behind a forecast that is difficult to ignore.

The Message Behind His Forecast

Gingrich did not present the prediction as a random burst of campaign chatter. He connected it to a lesson he said he and Clarissa Gingrich took from making Nine Days That Changed the World. The film focused on Pope John Paul II, also called Saint John Paul II, returning to Poland for the first time in 1979. Gingrich said that visit helped shake the Soviet Empire, and he recalled the message associated with the pope: quoting Christ, “Be not afraid.” In the Hannity podcast discussion, Gingrich used that message to explain why he was willing to “go out on a limb.” His point was that fear should not stop someone from stating a clear view, especially when the political climate appears ready for an upset.

His 2016 Prediction Proved Correct

Gingrich has taken that kind of risk before, most notably in 2016. On August 18 of that year, during an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, he openly predicted that Donald Trump would win the presidential election. He told viewers to keep the recording and remind him about the call after the election. Gingrich argued that the country would not reward big banks, big unions, big bureaucracies, big donors, and big corruption by voting for what he called a “big liar.” He also said Trump was sincere and trying hard to get the country back on the right track. Trump won the 2016 election, so Gingrich’s earlier prediction went against the pollsters and proved correct.

A Similar Bet on the 2026 Election

Later in the fall of 2016, via Breitbart, Gingrich continued to forecast improving numbers for Trump and a Brexit-style surprise outcome. Now, he is making a similar prediction for the November 2026 election. His expectation is that Republicans will produce an off-year result that catches the political world off guard. The prediction is not a final tally or a new polling result. It is a clear statement from Gingrich that the Republican side has a better chance than many observers may believe. Until Election Day, his claim remains a forecast, but it carries extra interest because his previous Trump prediction landed on the right side of history.
