Two Analysts Reportedly Refused The Assignment
The FBI has reportedly fired two intelligence analysts based in Atlanta after they refused to take part in the bureau’s investigation tied to Georgia’s 2020 presidential election. According to reports, the analysts are husband and wife, and they told colleagues they did not believe the case was justified. After declining the assignment, they were reportedly escorted from the FBI office. That is not exactly a quiet HR meeting over coffee. The FBI has not publicly confirmed the firings, but a spokesperson defended the bureau’s position, saying it will investigate credible allegations involving federal elections and that employees are expected to uphold the mission and standards of the agency.
Hundreds Of Analysts Were Put On The Case
The reported firings come after the FBI assigned 260 investigative analysts to help with the ongoing review involving Fulton County, Georgia. An internal FBI memo reportedly said those analysts were tasked with completing about 708 records checks by July 17. The same memo described the work as a priority for FBI Director Kash Patel and authorized overtime, including weekends and holidays, to get it done. The exact records being reviewed have not been made public, which means taxpayers are left watching a major federal effort unfold while the government keeps the details tucked away in the usual official fog machine.
Fulton County Officials Are Not Thrilled
Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts criticized the expanded review and called it a “Hail Mary,” saying he had not been told about the move. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who has long defended the state’s election system and says his team runs among the most secure elections in the country, said he would assist the investigation. Conservatives will remember Fulton County as one of the biggest flashpoints from 2020, so a renewed federal look is going to draw attention fast. When officials insist everything was perfect, but federal agents are still digging through records, people are naturally going to ask what is really inside those boxes.
Federal Agents Previously Seized Election Materials
The expanded work follows a January action in which federal agents seized more than 600 boxes of election materials from a Fulton County election warehouse, including original 2020 ballots, as part of a Justice Department investigation. Last week, U.S. District Judge William Ray rejected the DOJ’s effort to subpoena 2020 Fulton County election workers, writing that the subpoena was unreasonable because the need for the information was low and the burden of disclosure was high. No criminal charges have been filed, and federal authorities have released few details about the scope of the investigation. For now, the public is left with a lot of smoke, very little sunlight, and two reported FBI firings that raise even more questions.
