Republican vice presidential candidate and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance has strongly criticized Vice President Kamala Harris after she made a shocking statement during Tuesday night’s debate. While discussing the current state of the military, Harris claimed that “there is not one” U.S. service member currently in a combat or military zone around the world. This statement has sparked outrage and disbelief, with Vance calling it “astonishing” and questioning Harris’ fitness for office.
In an interview with Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” Vance expressed his shock at Harris’ statement and accused her of being completely out of touch with reality.
“It’s astonishing for the vice president to say this,” he stated. “Just a couple of weeks ago, you had American troops who were seriously injured, likely by Iranian-backed militias. The fact that she actually serves as the vice president and is apparently unaware that the people who serve underneath her are not only in harm’s way, they’re not only in a combat zone, they have been actually injured in the last couple of weeks. And again, it shows how thin and superficial Kamala Harris’ entire approach to public policy is. This is a person who doesn’t know what’s going on.”
Vance went on to criticize Harris’ overall approach to public policy, calling it “thin and superficial.” He pointed out how her lack of knowledge about the presence of U.S. troops in harm’s way is a concerning reflection of her leadership abilities. “Whatever your disagreements about Kamala Harris’ policies, and believe me, I have many, I don’t want a vice president who doesn’t even know we have troops in harm’s way,” Vance stated. “That’s not a leader that’s fit to serve.”
Vance also highlighted the failure of the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies and how it has negatively impacted national security and the economy. He accused them of allowing dangerous foreigners to enter the country, stating that this jeopardizes America’s safety.
During the debate, Harris failed to mention the 13 U.S. service members who were killed in Kabul, Afghanistan, during the botched withdrawal on August 26th, 2021. This was in response to a question about exiting the region. She also did not attend any public events related to the service members’ deaths, unlike Republican nominee Donald Trump who attended a memorial for the fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.
In contrast, during a previous debate in June 2019, Biden falsely claimed that he was the first president in the past decade not to have Americans die overseas during his leadership. This misrepresentation of facts has only added to the anger and outrage against the current administration.

Vance concluded by stating that Harris’ statement further highlights her incompetence and lack of knowledge about critical issues facing the country. He called into question her ability to lead and make informed decisions, and claimed that she is not fit to serve as vice president.
There has been a renewed call for accountability and transparency from the Biden-Harris administration. Harris’ lack of awareness about the presence of U.S. troops in harm’s way has only added to the growing concerns about their leadership and competence.
The American people deserve leaders who are well-informed and capable of making sound decisions for the nation’s best interest. Harris’ statement has only highlighted her shortcomings and raised doubts about her suitability for office.
