According to multiple reports, CeeLo Green attended a memorial party in Atlanta on Wednesday evening to honor the late rapper, Shawty Lo. In an ill-advised attempt to make a grand entrance, Green rode into the party on horseback. However, the environment proved too stressful for the animal, and it lost its footing on the slippery, tiled floor, sending Green tumbling to the ground.
Video footage from the event shows Green astride a horse as it’s led into a crowded room with flashing lights and loud music. The horse grows visibly agitated, taking awkward, jerking steps. Within seconds, its legs splay out from under it, and the animal crashes down, sending Green face-first onto the floor. Green appears stunned but unhurt, and he quickly gets back to his feet as concerned attendees rush to help.
Animal rights organization PETA was quick to criticize Green for the stunt, stating that “horses don’t belong at a noisy, crowded party, where slippery floors and strobe lights can agitate these vulnerable animals.” The organization urged Green to show more compassion toward animals in the future.
Shawty Lo, a rapper from Atlanta’s Bankhead neighborhood, died in a car accident in 2016 at the age of 40. The annual party is held to honor his life and legacy on his birthday, March 22. While Green’s entrance was well-intentioned as a tribute to his late friend, the attempt clearly went awry in a way that put both himself and the horse at risk.
Personally, I’m not a fan of horses. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but I’m just not very comfortable riding them. The last time I rode a horse was about 20 years ago and to be perfectly honest, that may actually be the only time that I ever have rode on a horse.
