A Tight Race Gets Even Tighter

Wisconsin’s Democratic governor primary turned into a late-night nail-biter as Francesca Hong and David Crowley traded momentum through the evening. Hong had reportedly led the field heading into primary day, but early results showed her struggling to put away Crowley, especially when Milwaukee numbers began coming in. One post from Eric Daugherty said half of Milwaukee had arrived and the race was tied, with Hong losing the first drop 45.7 percent to 44.1 percent. For a candidate counting on that base, that is not exactly the victory lap Democrats were hoping to post with confetti emojis.

Crowley’s CNN Moment Did Not Help Much

Crowley may have been leading at points, but the source also pointed to a CNN exchange that raised eyebrows. When asked whether his issue with Hong was her policies or her lack of experience, Crowley answered, “Well I just think that our democracy, we need to have good people running for office.” That is one way to dodge a question, I suppose. Washington consultants probably call it “message discipline.” Most normal Americans call it not answering the question.

Dane County Gave Hong a Boost

Hong’s strength showed up in Dane County, home to the University of Wisconsin. A post from Politics & Poll Tracker cited New York Times and AP numbers showing Hong at 42 percent and Crowley at 38 percent with 58 percent reporting in that county. That tracks with the modern Democratic map, where college-town politics often run far to the left. Thanksgiving Comments Resurface

Another clip focused on Hong’s past comments about Thanksgiving. In the video, Hong said, “I’ve cooked many great Thanksgiving dinners…and I’m not going to cancel Thanksgiving.” The same post noted that Hong tweeted in November 2020, “Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621.” That kind of record tends to follow a candidate around, especially when voters are deciding whether the left has moved from normal liberal politics into permanent campus seminar mode.

Late Vote Drop Shifts the Lead Again

By 10:00 PM, the race was nearly tied, with Crowley holding a slight lead. Then, at about 10:30 PM CT, Hong reportedly jumped ahead for the first time after an 18,000 vote drop. A post from Bo Loudon said even NBC News reacted strongly to the late movement, quoting, “Wow. What the heck… That was huge for her.” The source later updated again at 11:00 PM, saying Crowley had retaken the lead by 3,000 votes. So yes, the Democratic primary managed to deliver drama, confusion, and another reminder that counting votes late at night is America’s least relaxing television program.
