The United States is not a systemically racist country. However, do issues with racial bias and racial hatred exist? To deny that there are some twisted people living in America would be as wrong as racism.
While not the norm, there are stupid people who believe in stupid ideas. One such person was a senior at the University of Kentucky. We’re not sure if Sophia Rosing is stupid or not, but what she did recently proves she has a glaring substance abuse problem.
Ms. Rosing may have other issues as well. Recently, UK campus police responded to an incident at 4:00 a.m. It’s alleged that Ms. Rosing physically assaulted a residence hall staff member. Kylah Spring works at the front desk of one residence hall.
She is a 19-year-old black freshman. Rosing was captured on video punching Spring. She repeatedly called Spring the “n-word,” while slamming her in the stomach. The victim says that Rosing kicked her in the stomach while demeaning her with racist slurs.
Rosing told campus police, “The girl starts saying things like, ‘do my chores, it’s not my fault that you’re black, it’s not my fault that you’re ugly,’ and at this point she’s like singing the n-word.” The arrival of police didn’t deter the radically violent Rosing.
Obviously drunk, she kicked and bit the arresting officer. Furthermore, Rosing insisted that she was “wealthy and accustomed to special treatment.” A local judge gave her the special treatment of a $10,000 bond.
University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto posted on Twitter that Rosing has been banned from campus. Likewise, she has been suspended indefinitely. Now, she’s been formally indicted on assault charges. Rosing has now also been charged with six offenses: one count of felony assault of a police officer, three counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct, and one count of public intoxication. She was formally indicted on all six counts by a grand jury on Wednesday. She pled not guilty at the initial hearing in November and is scheduled to appear in court again on March 17.
The president said, “We also must be committed to holding people accountable for their actions.” Sophia Rosing is the epitome of a self-entitled, spoiled brat. She does not represent most Americans. However, this young lady suffers from grave emotional disorders.
To have acted the way she did, drunk or not, is unconscionable. These types of incidents are what radicals seize upon to insist that racism is a systemic issue. It’s not. There are just some really stupid people who do some really senseless things.
