What Happened Before Kickoff
A video circulating online from Portland, Oregon, appears to show a Jefferson High School football player running toward a Grant High School player who was carrying a large American flag onto the field. Grant players were entering behind their flag-bearing teammate when the Jefferson player made contact and sent him to the ground. Grant players then moved toward the Jefferson player, turning a pregame entrance into a confrontation. Rivalries can get heated, but a football game is supposed to test blocking and tackling skills—not serve as a wrestling audition.
A post from Libs of TikTok highlighted the clip. The separate account that originally posted the video appeared to celebrate the hit, but it was later deleted and was not officially affiliated with Jefferson High School.
OSAA Says the Player Was Ejected
The Oregon School Activities Association, the state’s school athletic governing body, told OutKick that it was aware of the pregame incident. OSAA said the player was ejected and did not play in the game. The organization also made clear that rivalry games do not excuse this kind of conduct before, during, or after an interscholastic contest. There was no immediate word on whether the Jefferson player faced additional punishment beyond the ejection.
The Deleted Account Offered Its Defense
The account that posted the video later claimed the incident was not meant to disrespect the American flag. Instead, it said Jefferson players and members of the coaching staff had been mistreated by Grant before the game. The account argued that there had been an option to go around the field and pointed to the importance of the evening as Jefferson’s Senior Night, Homecoming, and final game on Jefferson Field. It also described Jefferson as a diverse school community whose Black, Hispanic, white, and other members come together as one school.
Taren Feist, an Oregon-based campaign manager, saved screenshots before the account disappeared. In an update, Feist clarified that the page was not an official Jefferson High School account and said the video was real.
The Game Result
Grant defeated Jefferson 35-14, moving to 6-1 on the season and dropping Jefferson to 1-6. OSAA’s response made clear that a heated rivalry does not excuse conduct like this before an interscholastic contest.
