John Stamos admitted that upon discovering that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen would not be returning for the Netflix series “Fuller House” in 2016, he was angry. During a recent podcast with Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz, Stamos, who played Jesse Katsopolis on the show, discussed reconnecting with the Olsen twins after Bob Saget’s passing in 2022, according to Yahoo.com.
“When the twins moved to New York… we didn’t really see them much,” Stamos said. “I mean, we stayed in touch a little bit, but Bob [Saget] really did. You hear rumors — ‘Oh, they hated their childhood,’ or ‘they hated being on the show’ or whatever. When I did ‘Fuller House,’ they didn’t want to come back and I was angry for a minute and that got out.”
“But they said, ‘We loved our childhood. We loved being with you. We miss Bob,’” he added of reuniting with them.
Stamos mentioned that the Olsen twins, who played Michelle Tanner on the show, once came to his house and brought a frozen pork chop and sage. He didn’t understand the reason but appreciated the kind gesture and it helped them stay close. The show “Full House” aired from 1987-1995 with the Olsen twins playing Michelle throughout the series along with Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, and Saget who played the character of Danny Tanner. “Fuller House” aired from 2016-2020.
Stamos also recently revealed that he got the twins fired when the show first started.
“So, we’re carrying the baby downstairs and we take her in the kitchen and we hose her down. And she was screaming. Both of them,” Stamos said. “They wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I.”
“They were 11 months old, and God bless them. They kept switching: ‘This one’s not gonna cry,’” he added. “I couldn’t deal with it. And I said, ‘This is not gonna work.’ And so they got rid of them. They bring on these two redheaded kids… I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive…”
“It was only a few days, and I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back! These kids are terrible,’” Stamos continued.
