Lori Vallow Daybell’s Strange Religious Views Revealed

Lori Vallow Daybell, the mother accused of murdering her two children and conspiring to kill her husband’s ex-wife, reportedly had undergone a drastic transformation in her religious beliefs leading up to the alleged murders.

A former friend of Vallow, Melanie Gibb, testified that Vallow, who was once a traditional Mormon, had developed dark and disturbing religious views after meeting her fifth husband, Chad Daybell. Gibb stated that Vallow believed individuals could be categorized into a scale of “light” to “dark,” based on whether they had signed contracts with Jesus Christ or Satan.

According to People Magazine, Gibb testified that Vallow had informed her in September 2019 that her son had become “dark.” In the earlier part of the year, Vallow had also reportedly told Gibb that her daughter Tylee had become “dark.” Vallow added that her son J.J had an evil spirit in him, which she had learned a day prior. The siblings disappeared just two months after Vallow’s statement about J.J, and unfortunately, they were never seen alive again.

Furthermore, Gibb stated that Vallow had informed her that J.J., who was autistic, had become increasingly challenging and had claimed to “love Satan.” Vallow also allegedly lied to Gibb, informing her that Tylee was attending Brigham Young University, which was not true.

Gibb had also stated that she believed Chad Daybell was “the hand” while Lori was “the puppet on that hand.” She had also stated that the pair were equally destructive to each other, likening them to gasoline and fire.

Gibb had also revealed that Vallow referred to her children as zombies, and that she and Chad aimed to eliminate zombies from the world. In December 2019, after the children’s disappearance, Gibb had a recorded phone conversation with Vallow in which Vallow stated that she would not disclose J.J.’s whereabouts to anyone.

“I’m not telling anybody where he is, so I can keep him as safe as possible,” Vallow Daybell said during the call, referring to J.J.

“He is safe and happy,” she added.

In his testimony, police detective Ray Hermosillo provided gruesome details of the day authorities found the bodies of Vallow Daybell’s children. Tylee’s body was found burnt, while J.J.’s remains were wrapped in plastic and buried in a shallow grave.

Lori and Chad face charges concerning the murder of both Vallow Daybell’s children and Chad Daybell’s ex-wife, Tammy. The trial, which began after the pair were charged on May 25, 2021, is still ongoing. According to Fremont County Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Blake, the case revolves around “money, power, and sex” for Vallow, saying that she used these to get what she desired.
