Feds Say a Nebraska Man Led the Alleged Plot
Federal prosecutors say a group of five men conspired to carry out a mass-casualty attack targeting U.S. officials at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House grounds. According to the Justice Department, Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, 31, of Omaha, Nebraska, was the person directing the operation. He allegedly used the name “Shepherd” in an encrypted chat and was responsible for planning, organizing, and steering the group’s actions. That is not exactly the kind of “leadership” anyone should want on a resume, unless the goal is ending up in federal court and making everyone else very nervous.
Officials Say the Plan Involved Drones, Explosives, and Snipers
The criminal complaint says the conspirators planned to use drones armed with explosives to trigger chaos at the event and force an evacuation. Prosecutors say they then intended to use snipers to fire on “high value targets” as people tried to flee. Alvarez allegedly shared maps, marked sniper spots, and gave directions on where drones could launch and where shooters could position themselves near the White House area. He also allegedly wrote in the chat, “This is the best action I see,” and urged the group to place teams in “purple dots” and an “easy out into the river.” That is not a political debate. That is a violent plot, and the FBI says the paper trail was thick.
Tip from a Mother Helped Trigger the Investigation
The case began when Tycen C. Proper’s mother contacted law enforcement because she was worried about her son’s recent behavior, including firearms purchases and online contact with certain people. Prosecutors say Proper later admitted he had helped plan “a coordinated attack against the United States government” during the UFC event scheduled for June 14, 2026. A search of his home allegedly turned up spent ammunition boxes, spent cartridge casings, and tactical clothing. Investigators also say his iPhone held Signal group chats with detailed attack plans, including imagery of the National Capital Region, sniper locations, drone launch points, and other tactical notes. The old “nothing to see here” routine apparently did not survive contact with the evidence.
Religious and Anti-Government Claims Show Up in the Affidavit
According to the affidavit, Proper expressed “ultra-religious and antigovernment sentiments,” including grievances about government corruption, the Epstein files, and data centers using too much water in local communities. Prosecutors also say his mother believed online contacts were manipulating him through religion. Along with Proper and Alvarez, federal charges also name Bryan Omar Roa, Michael Alan Thomas, and Daniel K. Eskridge. Alvarez appeared in court Tuesday and agreed to consular notification, which is required when foreign nationals are arrested so the suspect’s home country can be informed. He is due back in court on June 24 for a preliminary hearing.
