Iowa sports reporter Mark Woodley became a viral sensation after his station sent him out in the cold to cover a winter storm that hit the state, due to the cancellation of all sports events.
Woodley couldn’t help but crack jokes about the absurdity of being asked to stand outside in the freezing temperatures and tell others not to do the same. “I normally do sports [but] everything is canceled here for the next couple of days,” Woodley said. “So, what better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up, go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold, and tell other people not to do the same,” he added with a chuckle.
Woodley also joked that he didn’t even “realize that there was a 3:30 also in the morning until today” after being called in early for the morning show on NBC’s Waterloo station. The reporter, who is used to doing “evening” news shows that are only “30 minutes” long and are typically “inside” the building, quipped that he would progressively get “crankier and crankier” as the show went on.
“I’ve got good news, and I’ve got bad news,” Woodley said in another segment. “The good news is I can still feel my face right now. The bad news is I kind of wish I couldn’t.” Woodley even asked, “Can I go back to my regular job? I’m pretty sure Ryan that you guys added an extra hour to this show just because somebody likes torturing me.”
Despite his humorous complaints, Woodley managed to get through the show with a smile on his face. At the end of the clip, he expressed his gratitude at being “live Thursday morning for the last” time. The clip of Woodley’s broadcast has been viewed over 500 thousand times and counting. The situation is amusing, to say the least.
