This Is How We Should Treat Our Veterans: 800 Families of Fallen Heroes Receive Incredible Gifts

The Gary Sinise Foundation, in partnership with Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, recently hosted a five-day event called Snowball Express for the families of fallen veterans. The trip was designed to provide them with an unforgettable experience and honor their loved ones. More than 800 attendees visited the iconic theme park this month and were treated to a myriad of activities.

In his statement on the foundation’s website, actor Gary Sinise said: “Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more.”

This sentiment was echoed by Donna Palmer, Executive Director of the Gary Sinise Foundation, who noted: “I’ve had several mothers come up to me with tears in their eyes and say how grateful they are as moms to know that their children are with other children who experienced similar things. That feeling of comfort and connection means so much to them.”

These families were able to connect during the five-day event at Disney World through various activities such as attending concerts, seeing shows and characters from Disney movies, participating in sports tournaments or just spending time together. The memories created during this special occasion will stay with them for years to come.

The Gary Sinise Foundation is committed to honoring fallen heroes by providing year-round programming and support for their families, allowing them not only to remember what their loved ones sacrificed but also create new memories that would help them move forward. One participant noted: “I am completely overwhelmed by how amazing it has been…you just feel the love.”

The organization works hard throughout the year not only helping veterans but also first responders and those in need. Army Lt Gen Harold Moore once said: “There’s always one more thing you can do influence any situation in your favor—and after that one more thing… The more you do, the more opportunities arise.” This is certainly true when it comes serving these courageous men and women selflessly giving so much for our country’s freedom and security every day.
