It took a year, but Chris Rock has finally spoken out about what happened at the Oscars last year after Will Smith smacked him for telling a very soft joke about his wife, Jada Pickett Smith.
There was a lot of built-up anger in Will that night, and I think that it all just finally got to him, and he acted rashly and inappropriately.
Netflix has released the comedy special from Chris Rock called “Selective Outrage” in which the comedian addressed the infamous slap that occurred at the Oscars last year. In the special, Rock spent eight minutes discussing the incident and calling out Smith for his lack of response.
And about a week later, Will Smith has addressed the special.
According to Yahoo,
“Will is embarrassed and hurt by what Chris said about him and his family in his Netflix special,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “He didn’t watch it, but he had people tell him what Chris said. It’s everywhere when you look online and on social media, so Will and Jada have seen comments about it.”
Per the source, Rock isn’t the only one under fire. “Will is also upset that Netflix was a part of this and thinks Chris insulting Jada again is below the belt,” the source added. “He is upset that Netflix gave Chris this platform to share these messages and thinks it’s distasteful.”
As fans of both Will Smith and Chris Rock, we can only hope that they will be able to resolve their differences and move forward with mutual respect. Truth be told, I don’t even care for Will Smith anymore though. He’s lost my respect with his behavior. I don’t plan on boycotting him or anything and wish him all the best, but I just have no desire to waste my time with his movies.
